Summer fun... so far!

Summer has been well spent here at Life on One.  We have been super busy the kids have been to camp; Girl Scout camp and Boy Scout Camp, boy was it quiet around here!  Of course there is still work to be done at the Lavender Farm but some how we still managed to squeeze time in to see Niagra Falls, from both sides, (loved the Canadian side much better it was soooo clean and beautifully landscaped, sorry U.S.).  We've also been hanging out at the beach and last but not least we have one more trip planned.  Oh my goodness, Duff and Bird are having the hardest time not wetting their pants, the anticipation is killing them, this is their favorite place to go....  Maine for two weeks!  Yip-eee!!!!
Just a few quick pics.
Dirty feet after a week at Girl Scout camp, yuck!
I'm so thankful it was cool that week.
Niagara, standing on the Canadian side.
What a blast! (and no one fell in!)

A Fancy New Chair!

I hate to admit that I've been very lazy about posting.  But... I have been a faithful blogger on the Lavender Fields Farm blog.  So just to get back in the groove, here is one of the project that has been keeping us (Me and Bird) busy at Life on One.

I found this antique chair in the trash, can you believe it?!  Aside from the seat it's sturdy and has nice lines.
Newly painted!  The colors are fun and funky!
My plan for this little hand painted chair is to add chicken wire and a coconut husk liner to the seat.  Then after I seal it with some sort of exterior sealer I'm going to fill it "chock-ful" of Wave Petunias, geranuims and other annuals and plant it somewhere in my garden.
Can't wait to see how it all turns out!?

A few great finds!

Don't you just love it when you can find some great stuff and you know right away that you just have to have it! Yes, even when in the back of your head you can hear your honey (screaming) telling you his all time favorite saying, "Remember, we're trying to down-size?!?"  Oh my luv... Don't be silly, isn't that what you do when you retire?
So here's what I found after a day at the beach and at the local thrift store.

Found this on Lewes Beach.  Turned it into this great clock.  A very slow clock we will always be late.  I think it was the bottom of a crab pot, now it sit atop the hall closet, may add some clock hands?!

Found this tiny vintage suitcase at the local thriftstore and filled it with all my "what-nots".  There's that voice again , I can hear it (in my head) saying, "Junk, remember downsizing!"  Come on already sweatheart be quite!
Looks good to me!
Finally, I found this very cool, handmade shelf at the same store, needs serious dusting and some new paint.

Love this, has wonderfully carved deer, birds and flowers.  Just needs some TLC!

Hope you can find some great stuff in your travels.  And don't forget to ignore that annoying voice in the back of your head!

Guess Who Went to the Science Fair?

Last night was the 2nd Annual Cape Henlopen School District 5th Grade Science Fair!  Hooray!  We decided that skipping Boy Scouts was a small sacrifice, we had spent weeks on our Science Fair project and my handsome son wanted to see the "happenings".  Guess what? Education comes First in our House!  We have alot of extracurricular activities but in the end, school comes first!  I am so glad we went.

There are 4 categories:  Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science and Consumer Product Science.  There were 4 Schools that participated and several hundred kids entered their projects.

Duff entered the Physical Science catergory.  We tested three products:  Hefty Fresh Extend Bags, Ziploc Fresh Produce Bags and the original Dole plastic fruit container.  We placed fresh strawberries in each container, followed the manufacturer directions and waited to see which product kept the strawberries the freshest for the longest period of time.  So after many days, many trials, some horrible pictures on my part and some fowl smelling rotted fruit, we turned out a winner.

And the winner is... Hefty Fresh Extend Bags, they really do keep fruit fresh longer!

So Duff bagged 2nd Place for all his hardwork.  Congratulations my handsome and SMART son!

Happy St. Patricks Day!!!

Happy St. Paddy's Day!
It's turning out to be the perfect day, sunny and warm, it's Friday for Mr. Loo!!! Mr. LOO has been away at "Training" all week so we've had to fend for ourselves in the "What the Heck's for Dinner" dept. Last week when the kids heard Dad was going to be away this week they announced to my Mother-in-Law, "Great, we're going to be eating chicken nuggets on St. Patricks Day!"  Nice huh?   If you know me, you know I don't cook so having just put a corned beef brisket in the crock pot is a huge accomplishment.  (of course I had to make several calls to find out what the Hell I was doing) As I went over my grocery list I was reminded this-morning that the perfect time to hit the Market is early morning.  Dropped the kids off at school, had my choice of all the "front spot" dashed around all the isles without a problem and the cashiers were all in a good mood.  Lifes Good!
Kids can't complain tonite, they'll be eating yummy, been cooked all day, corned beef and cabbage.  Crap! forgot the cabbage, have to run back out!   (really, I did forgot)

Enjoy your day!

Thanks American Pickers for the Hits!!!

Let me quickly give the reason for my absence from blogging.  American Pickers!  Yes, I recieved a few negative emails and verbals about a post I wrote about the show American Pickers on the History Channel.  I was feeling a little intimidated and a little guilty for liking Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz and their antics on the show.   Well, I've decided.... Too Bad!  I can't help myself, I thoroughly enjoy the show and will continue to watch!  (Plus, I've had tons of hits and lots of positive responses.)  So anyway, two thumbs up to Mike and Frank and American Pickers everywhere!  It's all about the thrill of the hunt, the people you meet and the stories they tell.  Ultimately, American Pickers are doing their part in helping to preserve history when others won't or can't.

Hope to hear from you soon!
